Saying "haMavdil Bein Kodesh leChol" at the End of Shabbat

Question:

After Shabbat is over, can one say "hamavdil bein kodesh lechol" to enable himself to do melacha?

Answer:

One should only do melacha after one has either said Shmone Esre of motza'ei Shabbat (i.e., with "ata honantanu") or havdalah. Simply saying "hamavdil bein kodesh lechol" is inappropriate under ordinary circumstances.
