All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible.    T. E. Lawrence (1888 - 1935), "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom"

“Rambamists” follow only the Rambam. Hear the drawbacks of this approach. It is reminiscent of Karatism.

PS to my previous comment:
I wish to discuss your stand on the Rambam discussion board of Facebook and I will wait for your reply to do so.

My comment in full is visible in my Facebook Notes. Here it is shortened out of necessity.

Point 1. You say that the Yemenites took upon themselves to follow the Rambam "of their own volition"... No!

The Yemenites followed the Torah and Halacha they carried with them from Eretz Israel to Yemen, and when copies of the Mishne Torah reached them, they adopted it as their Book of Law because they recognized in it their own ancient-old practices.

Point 2. You claim to understand the sources "as they are before us" but to understand them, one need keys of interpretation and these were transmitted ORALLY from master to student by TRADITION....
It is IMPOSSIBLE to re-create a tradition by a mere reading of the Talmudic texts. It just does not work that way!

Point 3. Your claim that the Rambamists are reminiscent of the Karaites is plainly outrageous. The Karaites are Kophrim who deny the Oral tradition and the authority of the Sages of the Talmud. Rambam sticks to it by every Kotz of every Yud...

Elisheva, one of those Rambamists who live by the Rambam because we follow the binding tradition handed down to us by Moses ben Amram, a tradition that would have been IRRETRIEVABLY lost had Moses ben Maimon not been inspired to conserve it and codify it ...
