Al-HaNissim - Special Nusah |

This text should be added to the Amidah and Birkat HaMazon of the Yom Ha’assmauth and Yom Yerushalayim. The addition of Al HaNissim in our prayers is Halachically
unassailable. The Tur writes that one may add a supplication or words of praise
in the Modim section of the Amidah (Ohr HaHayim 582 and Hagahoth Maimoniyoth
Tephilla 6:3). Indeed even on days when Hallel is not said, such as Purim, Al
HaNissim is recited - although we hold that you should recite Hallel with a beracha.

The story
is told of the Hassidic rebbe who, upon the establishment of the State of
Israel, began to recite the thanksgiving prayer of Hallel on Yom
Ha'assmauth, Israel's Independence Day. After a few years,
his followers noticed that the rebbe no longer recited Hallel. When queried
about this he explained: "When a child is born, everyone is happy. But if, as
he grows up, he goes off the correct path and moves away from the Torah, the
earlier jubilation becomes inappropriate".

The Origins of the Siddur
2,500 years ago, after having been
driven into exile by the Babylonian emperor Nevukhadnessar, the Jewish people
were given leave by the Persian emperor Koresh to return to their homeland.
The returnees were headed by three
prophets, Zekharyah, Hagai and Malakhi, who, along with their disciples, formed
the nucleus of what was to become known as the Great Assembly (Anshe
Kenesseth HaGedolah).
